Great relationships, connections and networking are built on the foundation of emotional intelligence. It’s not enough to pretend to control your feelings, but rather to be fully in touch with your emotions and use them resourcefully.

Although you might have heard of emotional intelligence as if it were a single skill, several different skills and practices come together that allow you to stay in touch with your emotions and those around you.

Typically, there are four key areas to emotional intelligence: self-management, self-awareness, social awareness, and relationship management. The nine skills in self-awareness that I will share with you overlap with all four of these areas.

It takes an extraordinary self-awareness to use your emotions effectively to create a better life and stronger relationships. Continue reading Emotional intelligence: 9 ways to build your self-awareness

Your heart dreams, head creates, and guts motivate

How your heart dreams, head creates, and guts motivate, maintaining momentum, ways to maintain momentum, gain and maintain momentum, how to maintain success, momentum going forward, keep the momentum up, keep the momentum rolling, stop surviving and maintain success, maintaining success, sustain success, define and maintain success, tired of just surviving, just existing, get through hard times in life, resilience, stay resilient through tough times, thrive, truly enjoy success

Your heart dreams of more – living with intentional choices that satisfy connection and bring value to life. Nonetheless, I relate. As a single mother, I get caught up in just being busy – on a continuous loop of week-after-week. And then, upon awakening, I find my centre because busy-me ignores my dreams, desires and goals. Busy leaves life empty and almost meaningless, at the expense of best.

Yes, I care for my daughter and get stuff done – but for what purpose?

Burnout: discovering meaning, passion & purpose

I recently wrote a blog post on my personal blog about the road to burnout.  The signs, signals, and symptoms that burnout was around the corner were obvious:“When you’re burnt out, you often no longer see yourself as an agent of change in your own life. It feels like all your efforts and your choices no longer impact your outcomes.” Emilie Aries, surviving to thriving

  • exhausted
  • energy depletion
  • mentally distant
  • problems “getting the job done”
  • sense of failure & self-doubt
  • insomnia & chronic fatigue
  • constantly falling ill
  • emotional exhaustion
  • anger issues, cynicism
  • depression & anxiety
  • forgetfulness & inability to concentrate
  • withdrawal

But I had ignored them, blaming them on my auto-immune disease (Celiac). I continued pushing myself. I blamed the chronic low-grade stress in my life on my illness. And I mistakenly thought that my problem was my mindset, time management, and the need to establish clearer priorities. Continue reading Burnout: discovering meaning, passion & purpose

Evolving wisdom: how wisdom emerges

Evolving wisdom: choosing the next right step forward, mbraining, multiple brains, head, heart, gut, gut instinct, heartled decisions, decision making process, direction, choices, choice, choose, generative wisdom, perspectives, views, considerations

I recently came face to face with some shadows of my past. While I took to blogging as part of processing my feelings, I also got in touch with two other mBraining coaches (Sarah & Wendy) that I regularly do sessions with and I asked for help to process my loss of direction. I needed assistance to get in touch with my naturally evolving wisdom.

I know the importance of dealing with these emotions and issues when they arise: one of the biggest mistakes I typically make is that I want to fix it for everyone else as well. Nonetheless, the only person that I can change and work on is me. I am responsible for how I respond and what I do.

Next right step

So, I found myself in a place where I needed clarity on “what is my next right step forward?”

What’s missing? mBraining Integration

What's missing? mBraining integration, lead from the heart, create options & solutions, listen to your needs & instinct

I started off last week thinking about “what’s missing in my life?” – in the sense of what’s missing when I feel unmotivated? When I am “stuck” and failing to move forward – what have I overlooked?

Or what might be missing if I feel unable to make a “good” choice?  When I am not taking care of my well-being – why do I forget to put on my oxygen mask first?  Or when I am struggling with gratitude, what do I need to do?

How can I do a better job at following through?
