Your authentic self: it takes courage to be vulnerable

your authentic self, authentic people, authentic person, authentically, authentically you, authenticity, be authentic, compassion and connection, courage, courageous action, creativity, demonstrate real authenticity, genuine authenticity, loving kindness, people-pleasing, practising loving-kindness, priorities, relationships change, self awareness, self compassion, truly authentic, vulnerable, what is important

In addition to needing compassion and creativity, you will need a healthy dose of courage if you want to live as your authentic self!

You know the science maxim: every action has an equal and opposite reaction? Or how about Newton’s first law of motion? An object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion (same speed / same direction) unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.

Most of us think of creativity as solely referring to artists: painters, musicians, writers, or even architects. They are so creative. I beg to differ. I believe that to be authentic requires that we each live from a place of creativity.

An authentic life requires compassion

an authentic life, you being you, living authentically, how to be authentic, compassion, creativity, courage to be yourself,

Living authentically seems to be a buzzword in so many circles – especially in the coaching world I live in! How do you live an authentic life?

To be authentic is to live with compassion and  integrity.

Integrity means more than honesty; it’s about wholeness and internal consistency.
You live in integrity when your actions and choices reflect your values, priorities and desires.
You live authentically when you compassionately listen to all aspects of yourself without ignoring any part of you.

Do your relationships reflect what is truly important to you or only what you think others will find acceptable and pleasing? Continue reading An authentic life requires compassion

Authenticity: what is truly important to you?

authenticity, goals, dreams, values, identifying your values, setting your goals, identifying your purpose, passion,

One of the reasons that we find ourselves unhappy is our lack of authenticity. This sadness usually happens because we are unaware of being out of alignment.

For example, one of our values might be family and relationships. Nonetheless, our definition of success might be solely focused on our career and professional development. To be successful, we sacrifice our family and relationships, living up to our goals and dreams. Nonetheless, we feel that we are living a meaningless life.

Of course, this only happens because we are unaware of the disconnect between our values and our goals or purpose. To live a truly authentic life means to have certainty that our plans and goals align with what we want and need, truly aligning with our values and priorities.

#1 – Authenticity: What are your values?

At the start of this year, I redid the exercise of examining my values. What is essential to demonstrate in my way of being this year? I wrote about this is “Secrets of the heart: revealing my values”.  In “Values & Priorities: why identify them?” I have a quick look at how to identify your values.
