Thriving beyond your comfort zone: how to focus and grow

Imagine for a moment – what would your life look like if you were thriving beyond your comfort zone? Imagine working with focus, where everything comes easily!

To learn & grow – to achieve what you have never achieved before – you need to move beyond your comfort zone! You have to stretch! However, to reach a level of excellence & competency – a place where you do things effortlessly, and you are thriving. You need to be within your comfort zone!

The secret to success is to continually expand your comfort zone, bringing more results within reach.

If you don’t have a dream, goal and plan of how you will do this, it can be exhausting. You can work too hard outside of your comfort zone, living in a state of constant stress.

On the other hand, if you fail to move into action regularly, you will get stuck in a rut, in complacency.

The challenge of a comfort zone when you are no longer thriving:

One of the problems with comfort zones is that they become familiar. They say “familiarity breeds contempt” – and so we find ourselves living in a comfort zone of complacency, boredom, indifference, & disengagement!

A comfort zone is no good if it’s a place where “nothing new is happening”.

Good comfort zones:
A good comfort zone, on the other hand, is a place of safety, contentment, connection and predictability.  We all need to feel safe and secure. Ideally, it’s a place of gratification, where you are effective at what you do – an expert!
A great comfort zone allows you to dive deeply into your expertise, developing yourself within this zone and constantly improving.  We might expand the zone slightly because of an overlap with another interest, but they are such small steps that we are comfortable taking them.  You are constantly developing yourself and growing – taller & deeper. This is thriving, just enough discomfort to keep us growing!

Stuck & stunted

But what happens when nothing new is happening?

It’s when we allow that comfort zone to get us “stuck in a rut” that it becomes problematic!  The world is continually changing. If we fail to grow our comfort zone, abilities and goals, we get “stuck” and left behind. The boundaries that once served us, that effectively made us comfortable, now hold us in!

We are no longer in our comfort zone, but miserably uncomfortable. We now find ourselves in limbo – in a space which no longer works effectively for us. By this time, we might feel overwhelmed and threatened by the thought of introducing change!

I can’t stay here!  But I’m too scared to move out!

If you keep doing what you’ve been doing – you will keep getting the results you have been getting! Are you happy with those results?

What if nothing changes and in five years you are still here?

We sometimes reach a point where we have to face the consequences of “staying here”. Is staying where I am more frightening than moving into the unknown?  Am I genuinely happy here – or do I need to find a new way to connect with my heart’s desires – with my passion, purpose and inspiration?

Fear is a construct of your mind – a human response that has been passed to us through our DNA – effectively working to keep us safe and secure.

Better the devil you know… than dread of the unknown

Stretching outside of your comfort zone should not be done to say you are beyond your comfort zone. A tree does not grow for the sake of growing, but rather it reaches for the sun.

Your purpose of stretching is to reach into your full potential!

It’s time to stop making excuses about why you can’t leave your comfort zone when you have something bigger to strive for.

Coaching Options:
Up to 15 hours over 3 months
You may schedule up to a maximum of 15 hours of coaching with me as best suits your schedule. Some clients choose to push more into the first weeks – to get bigger breakthroughs and then accountability sessions over the last months. Others just weekly calls. 
Up to 30 hours of coaching over 26 weeks.
Once again – you dictate the schedule that we work on for those 6 months, taking into account my availability and calendar.

What is your “why”?

Through coaching, we will discover your passions, motivations & what you deeply identify with.  Once you understand your heart’s desires, we’ll analyse how these integrate with your plans and goals!  Then, you can move intentionally towards what you truly care about.

When you have this clarity:

  • your hearts desires & your purpose & passions
  • your plans & goals & how you visualise your life
  • what you deeply identify with and the motivation to step out with intentional actions

You will no longer doubt yourself: Is there a better way to do this?

Expanding does not have to be painful; they are just steps taken as you grow.  These questions and their answers will become apparent.

  • Will this add value to my life?
  • Do I care about this?

The fact that you have never done this before will no longer be an excuse.

Will there be obstacles? Yes.
You will have to overcome them.

Will there potentially be failures? Yes.
But you can learn to fail forward!

Like a toddler that is learning something new – you can accept that your first attempt may not be perfect! There is no failure, just learning. What will you choose to learn from it?

When you think about it – children are typically vibrant, creative & happy.  They connect with the desire – they think of the possibilities with a limitless imagination – and then with courage and action – they go for it!

As adults, on the other hand – we’ve learned fear & rejection. We want acceptance.  If only we could learn to fail forward – to learn.  Of course, if you fail to learn – that is failure – repeating the same mistakes over and over again!

Will you need to review your support network? Most likely.

Does your existing network support you to expand beyond their comfort zone?  Will they be uncomfortable with your growth & transformation?  As long as you are open, you will find a network equal to the challenge you are facing!

Striding into a new “normal”: thriving

As you get used to this new space – one where you are learning, perfecting & mastering – you will have moved beyond your comfort zone.  As you become productive and effective there, it expands.  One in which you get used to trying something new, preparing & practising it, following through consistently, until you are comfortable once more.

The questions will become:

What do I need to improve to get better at what I do?
How can I enjoy the learning process?

As you get to know yourself once more – your feelings, thoughts, core self & identity – you will recover that highest expression of wisdom that lies within you.  The one that allows you to move forward, expressing constantly:

Coaching Packages

We can either do this over three or six months: the choice is up to you how much support you think you will need.

Initially, we will focus on clarifying your heart’s desires, passions & purpose.  From there, we will work on visualising the goals & plans that are required and identifying the actions to put those into effect. Finally, I provide you with the support & accountability to overcome the obstacles that you encounter as you start on this new adventure!
